Mountaineer is styled after the traditional alpine cheeses of Valle d'Aosta and the Savoie; Abondance, Fontina, Beaufort. This Virginia-made handcrafted cheese is dense, complex cheese aged in the European style that reflects Virginia's own mountainous terroir.
The gourmet cheese has a smooth supple texture and a natural brushed rind. It is aged in the cellars of Meadow Creek Dairy a minimum of 6 months. The result is a beautiful dark rind cheese with a concentrated flavor, toasted and nutty with a hint of butterscotch.
