In 1924, in Savannah, Georgia, Johnny Harris' Restaurant was a more a roadside BBQ shack that later developed into a successful and popular restaurant with a large following. Johnny Harris first dreamed up the concept of the new restaurant, and was joined by Red Donaldson and together they would create this successful restaurant venture. In 1936 Johnny Harris Restaurant moved into a new location in which it still operates today.
The restaurant has a historic feel and locals and tourist return for the food and the family atmosphere. Much of the restaurants reputation was spread by its enviable sauce that is still found on every table in every booth. In addition to the original flavor, a hickory flavor was created, which has a loyal following of its own.
In 1950 the Johnny Harris Famous Bar-B-Que Sauce Company was founded and is still run by family members of the founders. During the past years new products have been created, such as the Caroline Mustard Barbecue Sauce. All products are developed as offspring of the original sauce and hints of that addictive tanginess are evident in each.
