Zinfandel, or Zin for insiders, has become a trendy wine, after years of playing second fiddle to the Cabernet Sauvignon. Zinfandel is still a wine that has many confused; what is it's origin, how to classify it, and furthermore Zinfandel comes in many flavors and aromas.
We have selected 4 gourmet cheeses that pair just fine with a full bodied Zinfandel:
Aged Manchego Cheese (8 oz.) - relatively sweet and mild with a touch of salty nuts.
Taleggio (8 oz.) - another Italian cheese, but this one is a washed rind, lovely soft when at room temperature, but a stinky one.
Clothbound Cheddar (8 oz.) - an American classic, bandaged with muslin and skillfully aged 10-12 months at the Cellars at Jasper Hill, nearby Greensboro, Vermont.
Reypenaer (7 oz.) - Excellent Dutch Gouda; aroma and flavor are superb. Sharp and tangy.
