North Sea Cheese is a Gouda-type cheese, made in Denmark. The Danes call this cheese Vesterhavsost, named after the town of Vesterhav in North Jutland, a place very close to the North Sea coast. It is the location of the warehouse, where the cheese ages, that gives the cheese its unique flavor. Large installations in the warehouse push the salty sea air through that warehouse.
The milk for the North Sea Cheese comes from local organic farmers, who all farm close the the North Sea. This milk is treated with a specific red culture and ripens for approx. 30 weeks in the special climate of this cheese warehouse.
This gourmet cheeses has a smooth, slightly sweet paste balanced with surprising Alpine nuttiness and a hint of North Sea saltiness.
A perfect cheese to eat in chunks. When sliced thinly you can use it in sauces and grilled cheese.
