Rougette is an interesting German cheese. It is a triple-cream, soft ripened cheese with a washed rind. The cheese looks like wearing two coats, a red coat that is covered with a white coat. Quite interesting on a cheese board.

The cheese has a buttery consistency with it own personality and flavor. It brings a full flavor without a sharp, pungent smell and wonderful taste all its own. The cheese is made from pasteurized cow's milk from the Allgau region of Bavaria, Germany. To get the best from this soft ripened cheese it is best served at room temperature.

At your next affair, have fun with the cheese board by pairing this gourmet cheese with fruits and nuts. Drink a Port Wine, Champagne, a Gewrztraminer or a Rose wine.

We hand-cut and wrap this cheese in wedges of 8 ounces and 1 pound.

Ingredients:pasteurized milk, cream, salt, microbial rennet, paprika extract as coloring, bacterial cultures, Bacetrium Lines, Penicillium camemberti.
My first try at Rougette. As a long time fan of Brie and a stubborn consumer I admit, I would have never tried Rougette had it not been on sale because of an approaching 'safe date'. By comparison, the Rougette is creamier and does not offer the slightly bitter aftertaste that is common with Brie. Given the choice I will purchase the Rougette in the future.
