Butterkase (Butter Cheese) is a rindless cheese that indeed pretty much looks like a big piece of butter. The cheese is made by the German company Bauer, a company that was founded in 1887 by Franz Bauer and today the 5th generation of Bauers is at the helm.
Butterkase is made from pasteurized cow's milk, is shaped like a large brick and is semi-soft and can be sliced when cold. When the cheese is warmed up to room temperature the slicing will be a little harder ad this creamy cheese will stick to your cheese knife.
It goes without saying that Butterkase has a buttery flavor and basically no aroma. This German gourmet cheese melts not only in your mouth, it also melts fantastically in a cheese sauce, Mac and Cheese.
Serve it with Pilsener beer or a Chardonnay, or German Riesling wine.
We hand-cut and wrap this cheese in pieces of 1 pound and 8 ounces.
