Do you believe the legend that a wheel of goat cheese accidentally rolled off a table and into a barrel of wine, only to be discovered days later? Or did a clever Spanish shepherd get the idea one day while strolling the fields with his goats? Happy accident or not, we're glad this cheese exists.
Drunken Goat or 'Queso de Murcia al Vino' is a young cheese, made of pasteurized goat's milk and soaked in Monastrell wine for about 3 days, then aged for two months. This gourmet cheese is made in the Murcia region of Spain, in the Southeast the Mediterranean coast.
This semi-firm cheese is mild in flavor with a subtle sweet fermented finish, imparted by the red wine soak. This cheese is strikingly beautiful with its bone-white interior and deep purple rind. Pair this cheese with grapes, honey and crusty bread. And yes, you're allowed to drink it with even more red wine, as you should.
We hand-cut and wrap this cheese in wedges of 7 ounces. You can also purchase an entire wheel of approximately 5 pounds.
